About us
In the heart of creative St Leonards, East Sussex discover unique ceramic and fine early furniture.
We have a workshop behind the shop where the ceramics are designed and created and the furniture is restored.
Pelham's fine furniture & ceramics was born out of a belief of the old and new sitting happily side by side. After all most interiors are like this. Ceramic artist Liz Emtage and furniture restorer Geoff Osler have been working alongside each other for over 20 years with Geoff rejuvinating old furniture for large antique shops and collectors alike and Liz making and designing ceramics for private clients, interior designers and shops world wide.
Liz and Geoff have always appreciated the intrinsic craftsmanship of each other’s work and over time realised how well their work sits together. In 2015 they moved to Hastings having always yearned to live by the sea. They knew that their work complimented each other and decided that they would like to open a shop.
More than 20 years experience has gone into the making of Liz Emtage’s unique porcelain pieces. A passion for art and design that has developed over a lifetime. Liz has been interested in ceramics since she was 5 years old. She did a Foundation course in London at Middlesex University. She then went on to do a degree in Ceramics at Bath College of Higher Education. In 1996 she set up her first studio in central London at Cockpit Arts. Since then she has been making and selling her ceramic work as well as teaching and lecturing. She has been designing and creating translucent porcelain lighting, tiles and pieces for the home for more than 20 years.
Geoff has been interested in antique furniture since he was a child. This led him onto study furniture and furniture restoration at the London College of Furniture. Since then he has worked for different restoration companies and for the last 25 years he has been restoring and gilding furniture for private clients and London Antique dealers. He has a passion for the finely crafted pieces he sells. Geoff uses traditional techniques on his furniture to preserve their integrity. His ultimate goal is to create pieces that show their intrinsic qualities and craftsmanship whilst remaining faithful to the original cabinet makers.
Geoff and Liz met at Cockpit Arts studios in London in 1997 and decided to open ‘Pelham’s fine furniture & ceramics’ in 2016 in an informal and welcoming setting.
